United States Department of Defense (DoD)

The Department of the Defense (DoD) provides the military forces needed to deter war and to protect the security of our country. The department's headquarters is at the Pentagon in Washington D.C.

Business Transportation Agency (BTA) -

Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) - DARPA is the central research and development office for the U.S. Department of Defense. DARPA maintains the technological superiority of the U.S. military and prevents technological surprise from harming our national security. They also create technological surprise for our adversaries.

Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) - DeCA operates a worldwide chain of commissaries providing groceries to military personnel, retirees and their families in a safe and secure shopping environment. Authorized patrons purchase items at cost plus a 5-percent surcharge, which covers the costs of building new commissaries and modernizing existing ones.

Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) - is responsible for performing all contract audits for the Department of Defense, and providing accounting and financial advisory services regarding contracts and subcontracts to all DoD Components responsible for procurement and contract administration. These services are provided in connection with negotiation, administration, and settlement of contracts and subcontracts.

Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) - DCMA provides Contract Administration Services to the Department of Defense Acquisition Enterprise and its partners to ensure delivery of quality products and services to the warfighter; on time and on cost.

Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) - DFAS directs, approves and performs finance and accounting activities for The DoD. They provide responsive accounting and finance services to the men and women in uniform, as well as to those who support the war fighters defending our country. They provide timely and useful business intelligence to decision-makers who, with the right information, can more effectively manage their resources in support of our troops at home and abroad.

Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) - DISA provides advanced information technology and immediate communications support to the president, vice president, secretary of defense, military services, and combatant commands. From its Arlington, Va., headquarters and through worldwide field activities, DISA offers solutions and enhanced capabilities that enable our customers to make rapid decisions, using real-time information, and to turn these decisions into critical strategic, operational, and tactical actions.

Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) - DIA provides military intelligence to warfighters, defense policymakers and force planners, in the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community, in support of U.S. military planning and operations and weapon systems acquisition.

Defense Legal Services Agency (DLSA) - The Office of the General Counsel is headed by the General Counsel of the Department of Defense (DoD). Appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate, the General Counsel is by law the Chief Legal Officer of the DoD.

Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) - DLA is DOD's largest combat support agency, providing worldwide logistics support in both peacetime and wartime to the military services as well as several civilian agencies and foreign countries. DLA headquarters is located at Fort Belvoir in Northern Virginia.

Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) - DSCA conducts activities with allies and friendly nations to build relationships that promote specified U.S. interests. They build allied and friendly nation capabilities for self-defense and coalition operations that can provide U.S. forces with peacetime and contingency access.

Defense Security Service (DSS) - DSS supports national security and the warfighter, secures the nation's technological base, and oversees the protection of US and foreign classified information in the hands of industry. They accomplish this mission by clearing industrial facilities, personnel and associated information systems by collecting, analyzing and providing threat information to industry and government partners.

Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) - DTRA is the intellectual, technical and operational leader for the Department of Defense (DoD) and the U.S. Strategic Command in the national effort to combat the weapons of mass destruction (WMD) threat.

Missile Defense Agency (MDA) - The mission of MDA is to develop and field an integrated, layered, ballistic missile defense system to defend the United States, its deployed forces, allies, and friends against all ranges of enemy ballistic missiles in all phases of flight.

National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) - NGA is a DoD combat support agency and a member of the national Intelligence Community (IC). NGA develops imagery and map-based intelligence solutions for U. S. national defense, homeland security and safety of navigation.

National Security Agency (NSA) - NSA leads the community in delivering responsive, reliable, effective, and expert Signals Intelligence and Information Assurance products and services, and enables Network Warfare operations to gain a decisive information advantage for the Nation and our allies under all circumstances.

Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) - PFPA is a civilian Defense Agency within the Department of Defense charged with protecting and safeguarding the occupants, visitors, and infrastructure of the Pentagon, Navy Annex and other assigned Pentagon facilities.
